One lone man’s resolve to save public power

Public power or private power? Many people don’t know the difference. Many people don’t care. That’s just too bad, for there is so much that rides on power remaining public.
Here in BC we know all about the battle of private vs public power in the form of IPP (Independent Power Producers) or RoR (Run of River). On one hand we have the corporations salivating at their mouths at the prospect of making a killing off of the backs of BC’s tax payers. Alongside them we have the rats from Victoria handing over our rivers, our environment and our public utilities to the corporations on a silver platter. The stakes are high, the public is outraged, the politicians are shrewd and lying and the corporations are eager.
If you thought we had it bad, you should read the story of one man who single handedly, against all odds, with every one against him and two assassination attempts on his life, saved the public utility of Cleveland, Ohio, in the mid seventies. The story is so engaging, they should make a movie out of it. It shows the power of one, the resolve and passion we can all have if we believe in something strongly enough.
I applaud Dennis Kucinich. It is people like him that make this world a better place. It is people like him that are my heroes. It is a proof that we can beat the scoundrels and crooked politicians. God knows Victoria and Ottawa is stacked with them.
