Follow up: British Columbians save electricity by turning it off

VANCOUVER – By turning off or unplugging unnecessary lights and appliances, British Columbians were able to save a significant amount of energy during “Turn it Off ” Day.

On May 16th, during the peak hours between 7 and 10 p.m. on May 16th, BC Hydro recorded a savings of 70 megawatts or the equivalent of 1.2 million incandescent light bulbs being turned off for the entire evening. If British Columbians continued to turn off unnecessary lights and appliances during those hours, the savings would provide enough electricity to power 8,000 homes for an entire year.

Environmental Working Group Expands Skin Deep Database

Why should you care? Because we live in a chemical world. Because companies get away with putting extremely dangerous and carcinogen chemicals into everything you use and consume - without any repercussions. Nope, the government won’t protect you. Knowledge will protect you. The environmental working group is a well respected non-profit, non biased organization that I have the greatest respect for. They have helped me open my eyes and educate me when it comes to many different products I’d normally reach for in the super market. But no longer. Now I’m aware.

Dreamhost goes carbon neutral

Who the heck is DreamHost, you say?

It is the company that provides me with hosting services, and that hosts this blog. It’s been a year and a half I am with them and I do love the freedom and goodies they give me. It also helps that all their software is open source, which aligns itself with my ideology as well. Their prices are dirt cheap, and they provide great service. I can also do pretty much anything I want, and install almost anything I want. I love this kind of freedom!
