Andrea becomes the editor of our community newsletter

As you may or may not know, since December 2006, Andrea, my wife, has started to write into our community newsletter (comes out every month, reaches 487 households) a page long article entitled “eco-tips”. She has received excellent feedback from the people we already know in the community and we are all very proud of her. Her articles are very insightful and many people find it useful.

In a bid to have more of a free hand to write about the environment, Andrea decided to interview for the position of an editor when it opened up last week. Yesterday she got the phone call that she got the job.

This is really a wonderful news and I am extremely proud of her. Ever since we moved to our little community, Andrea has worked relentlessly to pursue her goals as an environmentalist in order to help people and the planet. I have a deep admiration for her. Currently Andrea is starting her own eco business and has many projects in queue. The newsletter will provide her the necessary platform to educate a lot of people in our community and engage people in various activities. Andrea is currently looking into anti-litter programs, and also sea choice aware consuming (sustainable fishing and what it means to the consumers). Andrea and me are also the organizers of the next annual Canada’s shoreline Cleanup, happening in September. We will be organizing cleanups at two different locations. One at a sea beach (Whytecliff) where a lot of divers go (we’ll be cleaning above and below the surface) and the other in our community to clean up our river (Coquitlam river). We intend to highly publicize these events; make it not only about cleaning up but also about educating the people. We’ll be offering prizes from local sustainable companies and we’ll definitely try to get media attention as well.

I invite you to join me and congratulate Andrea on what is surely starting to turn out to be a very altruistic and successful enterprise.

Suggest you talk with Metro Vancouver, was GVRD, regarding coordinating projects on environmental clean up. They actually run some very good programs in regional parks and would welcome your input. I’ve worked with them a few years ago on behalf of my astronomy club. We continue to facilitate programs with them by bringing out our telescopes and knowledgeable volunteers. \ne.g. March 13th, 2010 at Aldergrove Lake Regional Park.\n\nhttp://www.metrovancouver.org/region/calendar/Lists/Calendar/DispForm.aspx?ID=872

I appreciate the input and will keep it in mind in the future. Right now my focus has shifted towards more food security, sustainability, climate change and keeping our minicipal governments accountable. Cheers!
